Dr. Brit Phillips can repair cracked or fractured dentures as well as the artificial teeth of the denture if they are chipped, cracked or broken. If possible, keep all the broken pieces of the frame or plate together. Don’t use super glue or try to repair the denture yourself. Attempting to repair it yourself may end up resulting in further damage and make your denture impossible to repair again and uncomfortable to wear. It is always advisable to have your denture fixed by a qualified professional who has the correct knowledge and equipment.
Denture Relines
A denture reline refits the denture to the gums by way of a new impression. A reline may provide a solution to a loose-fitting denture. Dr. Phillips will discuss with you the type of reline that will be most appropriate for you.
Denture Adjustments
Denture adjustments help alleviate soreness due to high spots where the denture rests upon your gums. Dr. Phillips advises that an adjustment is not the solution to a loose-fitting denture. A reline is typically the best solution.
If your dentures are older and have broken several times, it may be necessary to have a new set made. Dentures that have had teeth added or fractured multiple times are generally not very comfortable to wear as they no longer fit that well. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that dentures be replaced every 5 to 7 years.
